The University of North Carolina!!
After months of applications and interviews, we have finally decided where to move this fall for Travis to get his PhD in accounting---and it was quite the adventure getting there!
Having options is a good thing and we are so grateful to have had so many. But it did cause some stress in the process as we were making a decision, but looking back we can laugh now! Here are the schools Travis heard back from:
University of Southern California
Rice
University of Arkansas
Texas A&M
University of Washington
UC Irvine
University of Iowa
And every single school gave him an offer. And in the end, we declined them all. Because at the very last minute, the University of North Carolina came into the picture. The ironic thing is, is that we never applied to UNC, but it was our top choice last summer. There were some other guys from BYU applying, so in the end we decided not to apply. But then UNC had one opening available {it's a top 3 program!}, and we have heard it is a fantastic place to live. So, a Skype call happened and the rest is seriously left to divine intervention. The answer was so clear! About 100 tiny things had to fall perfectly together as they did for this to be the outcome. After many neat {and kind of crazy} experiences full of an intense {and a long} stupor of thought, what we thought was an answer, which was only an answer to lead us to the right answer, and then going with our feelings, we have accepted the offer to attend UNC! We are so excited!! We have learned from these past few months that the Lord is ultimately in control, and when we are striving to do our best, everything works out for our good.
I found your blog through Lisette's post about stillbirth (a pain I have experienced as well) and I was so moved by your comment (and her response to it) that I thought I would take a peek at your blog as well. I had just started reading when I came across this post and wanted to tell you that you will LOVE Chapel Hill! It's such a charming little town, and the people are friendly. My husband did his intern year of medical residency at UNC so we were only there for a year, but it was sweet. We miss the Mellow Mushroom! :) Best of luck to you in NC...
ReplyDeleteThank you!! It's good to hear from you. We are thrilled to be heading to NC; we have heard only excellent things!
